What is happening in Yemen?
The current situation in Yemen is considered as the worst humanitarian crisis worldwide. According to various figures, thousands of civilians already died on site from diseases, poverty or malnutrition; and in addition, thousands more are on the verge of famine. As a result, about 80% of the population (i.e. 24 million of individuals) urgently need humanitarian aid and protection.
As a MUN, We strongly believe that it is important to address such an issue among others during our training sessions.
Sophie da Camara's Lecture
As part of our training sessions and to introduce such a complex subject to our members, LouvainMUN had the honour and the opportunity to meet Ms. Sophie da Camara, a UN former employee and Head of UNOCI’s DDR division, but also an international relations specialist with a focus on the African region, for an interesting and detailed lecture on the Yemen crisis.
She introduced the situation on site before she addressed the role of diplomacy in the 21st century (with a focus on the UN Security Council, sanctions and peacekeeping operations), but also the humanitarian aid access and relief on the field.
A lecture that gave us a better understanding of the world we live in today. We are very grateful to Ms. da Camara for her enriching presentation that will allow us to carry out our simulations.
